S24 (Rod Seal)

Compact rod seal 1545 (S24) is used for sealing piston rods and plungers. It consists of a synthetic rubber portion (NBR) with proofed fabric either on the dynamic sealing face or the base of the seal.

Compact seals operate even under high pressures because of the good sliding characteristics provided by lubricant retention in the surface texture. This ensures that during operating the seal will not run dry as this is the case with all rubber seals. When normal tolerances are used an additional feature of the fabric or the backup ring is that it prevents extrusion into the clearance gap, and therefore reduces wear of the seal.

Compact rod seal 1545 (S24) is similar in shape to that of 1541 (S8). It has a larger section and is equipped with a plastic back-up ring in the base of the seal. It can withstand higher loads and under heavy working conditions it is used as a piston rod seal in hydraulic cylinders and in similar equipment.
